Find a Focal Point in a Room

Any room will feel much more interesting and offer a more comfortable place to rest if you arrange the furniture or accessories around a focal point. Now you just might ask; "Just what is the focal point in my room?"  By definition it should be the first thing you see when you enter your room.  If your fireplace mantle is your focal point, play it up by using accessories to draw the eye to that particular piece.

Another example of a focal point could be a special picture or painting, a mirror or a dramatic piece of furniture.  Look around your room to find the biggest feature. Is it visually appealing, colorful or texturally pleasing?  That focal point is the base from which your work begins. Arrange your furniture around it, and suddenly your room takes on a new interesting look and you have a room that makes sense!
