You can trace the origin of mirrors back to 3000 B.C. Egyptians polished bronze to create reflective surfaces. In the early 17th century the French refined the process when they developed glass blowing techniques. The expense of producing these mirrors kept them out of the hands of all but the upper class. Louis XIV had a personal collection reputed to exceed 500 mirrors. In 1682 he commissioned the construction of the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versaille. The hall has 17 windows spanning floor to ceiling. Opposite the windows are 17 mirrors reflecting the expansive manicured gardens, extravagant crystal chandeliers and the ornate costumes of the frequent party-goers.
The lesson we can learn from the French of long ago is that mirrors can be used to brighten and expand any room today. You don't have to reflect crystal chandeliers, but who wouldn't want to double the impact of a beautiful lamp or the natural light from a window. One of the newest trends with mirrors is a leaning floor mirror. They range in height from 70-90" and come with frames to accentuate any decor. These mirrors can make a huge impact in a room by creating a focal point or doubling an existing one. Stop in to Brymons today to see our exciting new addition in mirrors...leaning floor mirrors!
