Focal points and supporting casts

A fireplace, a beautiful outdoor view, great art and a conversation area…any or all of these can act as natural focal points within your room. Yet, these star attractions also rely on a cast of supporting players. For example, side tables play an important role in almost every room of the house. They serve as rest stops for the eye as it travels around the room .  They also offer opportunities to combine functional items such as lamps and objects you enjoy looking at that display your personal style. The goal is to create an engaging vignette that blends with the prominent colors and textures in the room as it establishes high and low points that lead the eye through your space. Avoid overcrowding your display; it should attract some attention, but remain content in the shadow of a focal point.
