Choose a neutral sofa and liven it up with an exciting pillow fabric.

If you choose a rich chocolate brown sofa and toss on some plaid pillows, you have a country look.  Take the same sofa and choose some geometric-patterned pillows and now you’ve given the room a more contemporary feel. Use a multicolored-striped pillow and go for a more tailored look.  The possibilities are endless but the point is that your major investment is in the sofa so make that piece work in many settings by staying neutral.  Pillows are relatively inexpensive and fun to swap out whenever the mood strikes.
