Style is a very personal thing, it is a representation of the things you love; everything you love stems from previous experience. For example: You might lean toward a country style because it reminds you of baking cookies with your grandma; or you might prefer a more clean contemporary look because, unlike Grandma, you don't like to dust knick-knacks. You just might like a tropical theme because it reminds you of your honeymoon vacation. As you refine your style you eliminate what you don't like to better fit your personal taste. Your style should make a statement about who you are and what you stand for.
On the other hand, a trend is what is made popular by the general public. Usually a trend gains notoriety for a particular reason; perhaps an idea that was introduced as "innovative" or "inspiring." A trend that is currently sweeping the nation is the "completely custom decorating" trend which has given rise to multiple TV shows...even its own cable network!
