Fix My Ugly Room
Kellie Jimerson's room that won the Fix My Ugly Room Contest
Before:
This basement family room hasn't been utilized to its full potential. I foresee a room that can become a comfortable cozy environment with style and functionality. The brick fireplace will become the needed focal point and the walls are begging for some warm feeling color. Unnecessary clutter will be a thing of the past.
After:
Every challenge of the old room has been handled beautifully. Look at how warm and cozy the room has become. Now the Jimerson’s have the room they wanted and can entertain family and friends in style in this sitting area.
Before:
Here we are dealing with a very important decorating element - scale. The picture above the couch is lost - when placing a picture or any wall art above a large piece of furniture, think about its size in relation to the piece below.
After:
Here you can see the balance in the room. Your eye travels across the room landing on various points of interest and is not distracted by things such as too much visual weight in one area or clutter or unbalanced use of color. Also notice how the furniture is used to create a room divider to separate the seating area from the game area.
Before:
It's easy to get in the habit of dropping our possessions in a place where really they don't belong. A room becomes disorganized and instead of the good feeling we should have when we enter, it becomes a place where we really don't want to be.
After:
No clutter in this fun spot! This area is very versatile and comfortable. The Jimerson’s wanted a place to play games or a place to serve snacks – this room now does both beautifully. The table can be used for snacks, crafts, homework, puzzles, games…you name it. And everything can be stored in the cabinets the Jimerson’s already had in the room but were not being used.
